Removable rear seat!!

Postby Luke » Sun Apr 23, 2006 9:53 pm

Just fitted a set of triple transit seats to my mk4! thought i'd show the piccs incase anyone wants to do a similar job!! :D
What i was after was to be able to remove the seats quickly, easly and single handedly, i aslo didnt want any big brackets left on the van floor after all this is being used as a van!!

Bearing in mind this is a quick job and the seats 95% of the time will have no one sat in them (otherwise i would have fitted seatbelts) like im doing in my mk1!
if you want to do a pukka job see this thread by sundowner!!

Seats in situ! there is more legroom than it looks - i set them there so the mountain bikes still fit in the back with the seats in!! if i needed more leg room i could always bend the grid thing forwand at the bottom!
Image

Seats removed - as you can see the brackets arnt in the way!
Image

Bracket nearest door the cap heads locate it while the bolts at the edge hold it down! the 2 nuts are there so the bolts dont get lost while the seat is out of the van!!
Image

Bracket furthest in the bolt heads are welded to the bracket and dont require any adjusting! the top part has 2 angled slots in to guide it on easly!
Image

Im quite pleased with it the seats can be removed in 20 seconds and the only tool needed is a 19mm spanner to undo the front 2 bolts the rear just clips in! it takes about 35 seconds to refit them!
The brackets are 50mm flat bar about 5mm thickness and there are 4 washers made from the same under the van to hold it all in securely! :D

Did you make the brakets yourself then? Oh, and that's a rare seat, Mk2 custom really late, before they went to phase2, if I am not mistaken!

it's a sort of bri nylon fabric isn't it? Not like the tweedy stuff used on the custom Mk2 phase2s.

Transit seats

Postby sportscott » Sat Jun 10, 2006 12:05 am

I notice a lot of people wanting to fit rear seats in the Transits. Do you get double cabin Transits in the UK? In Holland the Road tax on a Transit is around 500 GBP a year for private ownership, the rules changed about a year ago. Before the change there were a lot of Double cabin vans around but know they are getting pretty rare, in fact Transits in general are getting scarce as they are being bought up and exported. Still there are are often rear seats offered on http://www.marktplaats.nl (dutch e.bay) just look under Auto diversen, onderdelen Ford, type in "zoeken, TRANSIT" and see what's on offer. My mk 5 is a DC factory fitted by Ford. I fitted a genuine Ford rear seat in my mk3 but welded the nut onto a plate and tacked this on to the underside of the floor with the mig, did'nt need to take out the fuel tank but then again it's a diesel. Can't imagine the costs involved in driving a petrol :x

Silver

Postby sportscott » Sat Jun 10, 2006 12:41 am

It rusts even quicker than other colours, even seen a van from 2000 that you could see the road through the floor in the rear. How can I post a picture?
