Rear seat install ***lots of pics***

Postby Sundowner » Sat Jan 21, 2006 4:23 am

Now that my van is all road worthy and drivable i thought i needed a place to put the kids
this is my solution

THE SEAT..

I got a seat from a Ford Falcon ute as its the same style as the front and lines up with the front seats, it is fully reclinable and has a fold down arm rest to make cruising all the more comfy

Image

THE FRAME..

I had to raise the seat 150mm to get the correct hight and to give me a space to mount the play station, inverter, amps ,tools etc etc
I made it out of 25x25x1.6 shs and made sure that it was bloody strong
Where the seat and belts mount i have welded in some 6mm plate and also where the frame bolts to the floor, and more under the floor
Its not going any where

Image

THE BELTS..

I had some new old stock mitsubishi retractable belts sitting in the shed
so they go employed to hole the kiddies in place, i used a falcon lap sash for the center
I braced the body with 2mm steel plate and the used som 50x50x6mm plate with nuts welded to the back to reinforse all belt mounting points
Then tested it by swinging my 100kgs of it, no movment

THE END RESULT..

Now that its in all i need to do is get it engineered and then i can start to trim the sides and throw in some carpet :D

Yeah i know its big green and rusty so move your Porsche before i bash it with 460 cubes of fords finest cast iron

If you kids are like mine, you will be getting the blame for them loosing the game, cos you hit a bump in the road :)

Yay, nicely done. See you've got the swivel front seat bases in. All you need now is a table in between.

I'm looking around for a folding seat for the back. Probably mount over the wheel arch facing sideways that way I don't lose any payload area. Not sure of legal implications in OZ re seatbelts but then I'm a bit of an anti-authoritive type.

Do you guys have Falcons in Europe or is it called the Granada? Been a while since I was over there.

I was also thinking of using an 85-91 Pajero rear as they fold foward backwards and have arm rests (some with cup holders) and is also reclinable

together with the extra seats that mount to the wheel arches it folds out to be a bed

the swivel bases are factory in a Sundowner

I think Falsons and Grannies are different cars, could be wrong.

Yeah I know its old thread. Falcons are only made in Auz, we have those dreadful things here too same models as for UK, but must admit They're pretty good on long journeys
