Luke's 24v cosworth into mk1/2 thread!!!

Postby Luke » Sat Nov 04, 2006 7:51 pm

Well as most of you know im fitting a V6 24v cossy engine into my mk2 fronted mk1 :D I'll post the progress as i get on in this thread :D I know there are a few others doing it but, we cant have too many 24v cossy transplant threads can we

So this is how im doing it :D

My donar car is a 92 J reg scorpio BOA engined, but has the more complecated wiring loom - apparantly :( but it doesnt put me off really theres plenty of info/help on the net if i get stuck :D

to make it easier ive also got a mk3 2.9 V6 12v ambilance to use the gearbox (although we suspect it is the same as a standard transit one), adapterplate and engine mountings :D

as far as fitting it in the van the only differece between the mk1 and the mk2 is the room under the bonnet i should be fine as the mk2 has the most room  but anyone wanting to fit one in a mk1 you'll need the bullnose front or cut away the bulkhead :!:

Luke, the gearbox is the same, i have 3 at the mo', and they are identical, on the outside anyway; a 2.5 Di MT75, a 2.9 Mt75 and an unknown Transit MT75..... :-)
good luck :-)

well this weekends work - basically nothing nearly got the box off the amby v6 - to get at the apapter plate when i dropped the prop on my fingers :x but on the plus side i'd got the box crossmember off - i thought it would bolt up the same as the mk2 one i have fitted but its different so i'll have to modify it :?

on a side note - im looking at fitting the cruise control off the scorp - as far as i can find out it will fit 8) all i need is another pedal switch to go on the clutch :D i think it would be worth the hassle as its something i'd use - unlike the air con, with is prolly more hassle than its worth :?

Just got the box off, does look like a normal one - havent had them side by side yet tho :!:

also got the flywheel off - i'll take a pic of it when i get home but i dont think its same as sierra - ive never seen one like it before - and the spigot bearing is in the flywheel - not the crank :!: but someone may be able to identify it :? :D

i aslo bought a new clutch off ebay and its just arrived ................. and its wrong :x , incorrectly listed, but i'll try to get the correct one :!:

and the plate - its off too - not exactly a just piece of plate drilled - it has locating bosses and the starter has a locating plate too but if you didnt have the correct flywheel im not sure that would work- but i'll post photos of that too :D

What starter motor was fitted to yours, mine was marked up as a Granada DOHC Auto....

good luck :)

2.9 v6 trasnit flywheel dimensions

Postby dipstick » Sun Nov 12, 2006 8:43 pm

The 2.9 V6 flywheel that came off an SVO Police Transit measures:

330mm dia friction face

298mm across gear side

approx 52mm from edge of friction surface to edge of gears

i hope some of this may be a help?

cheers

OK here's a pic

Image

part numbers all proper 2.9 Transit bits

2.9 transit flywheel - 89 VB 6375 AB DOKLA
ring gear - 11 405 073
2.9 to mt75 adapter plate - cant read it till it's cleaned i'll edit it in
starter motor mounting plate - 89 VB 11K 196-AB
Clutch - AP 10-10½ D5
friction disk - 47809

Edit - cant find a part number on the plate so i guess 89 VB 11K 196-AB off the starter mounting plate is the number for the plate too :?

Edit 2 - the ring gear has 138 teeth

flipping eck thats a flywheel and a half!! i guess is that deep to account for the adapter between the engine and box, looks bigger around than a car one as well but its a bit hard to tell from a pic.

Right. The ring gear is bigget than the car one to make it meet the starter ont he adaptor plate.

If you use the car flywheel the starter needs moving

well started ripping the engine out of the granny - :x never known a big car with such a difficult access  gave up today - too cold and windy :x

my plan is to fit the engine and box before painting the engine bay - thinking about it its the sensable way any modding/welding etc can be done and not need repainting then i'll pull it all out and paint then refit :D
