now fitting a mk5 transit front on my mk3 recovery truck.

here is a pic of my mk3 transit recovery truck when i 1st got it.





& heres what it looks like atm

the truck needed new wings, arches, sill & door step so ive decided 2 fit the mk5 transit front end!

so far ive brought:

2 new wings
2 new arches
2 sills (but only needed 1!)
drivers door step
crossmember
crossmember cover
2 new clear indicators
2 new clear side repeators
2 new headlights
new grill
new colour coded bumper
2nd hand drivers door

& 2day i brought 2nd hand:

slam pannel
scuttle pannel
bonnet hinges
bonnet catch
side repeator wireing
headlight wireing/plugs
headlight clips

pannels are half finished now & when all fitted up its beeing painted in diamond white (2 pack). hopefully it should look nice when its all done (fingers crossed)

I see you are applying plenty of the black stuff on to stop it from going again - nowt worse than welding you own welding 3 yrs later!!!

wow thats some long transit you got there.cant be to good at doing a three point turn in the road.or mini roundabouts looks like a good project.

yer is abit more work involved then i thought but will look nice when finished.

work is in progress at the min & me & my mate have just fitted the drivers sill, arch & wing (now doing passenger side). more pics will folow soon its just i left me digi cam at the garage! doh!

as for the turning circle it is abit big but what goods a transporter that only fits small cars on????

i only use it for banger raceing anyway. got a 5 ton winch comeing next week aswell so i'll have more fun cuting that into the floor fitting it.

when bodywork is done im geting wheels referbed & then gonna have a go at fitting mk5 dash & sum recaro seats in front (3 of them).

so thats what mk3 inner wings look like, always was currious to see the construction with the outer wings removed (gives you an idea how much work is needed to fit them into a mk2

more work than intended .... yup i know that feeling, very well

hhhmmm, so thats what a "bought" door step looks like will be interesting to see how my home made panels comes out (right now i have a hole where the step should be !)

but it should look smart when youve finished it

What sort of weight is it empty? mines a standard long wheel base but with a wooden bed coverd in ally treadplate and thats a hefty 2500 unladen
Allways fancyed a crew cab so i could have somwhere to kip on the long runs

You know me and Mk3s, but credit where it's due, and I like em big too . BUT think about keeping the original front end, one day all too soon even the early Mk3 will be getting scarce.................

all welded in nice & neat so not much filler needed there.


& we fitted passenger arch & wing 2nite & had a line up with all the new lights, grill & bonnet


all looks good 2 me (grill isnt cliped on but sitts nice & snug under the lights when held up)

i now see why mk3 and later had a problem with front wings/arches going rusty, i would have been tempted to redesign the way the inner and outer wings fit together and also that arch section next to the step, so that you dont have a twin skinned section along the outer edge. Ford never did realise that putting 2 pieces together like that just causes tin worm
