Sped pulse sensor ?

Postby Terry » Fri Dec 09, 2005 7:02 pm

Generally with sat nav systems speed is a calculated value,
Distance divided by Time, I seem to remember is the equation.
How thats done electronically i have no idea !
I got a little black book with me poems in

speed pulse wire

Postby Terry » Wed Jan 25, 2006 7:38 am

Looking for an adapter to mute my radio, for the phone kit, I came across a web site for Sio Communication, they show a wiring diagram which shows the speed sensor wire (going into the radio) as a WHITE wire !
Hope this helps.

oops, don't know how I missed this thread.

pin 1 is the power supply

pin 2 is the signal out

pin 3 is the ground connection

On VSS with oblong 3 pin connections pin 2 is the middle pin, on the type with the triangular connector, hold the connector with the flat side to the right as you look at it, pin 2 is the bottom one.

I know a triangle with a noticable flat side sounds a bit odd to imagine, but you'll see what i mean :)

Code: Select all
                           ----.
                        /      |
                      /        |
                     (         |
                      \        |
                       \       |
                         -----.

Hope thats a help to someone

Re: Speed pulse wire - VJ details

Postby gregw_aus » Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:28 am

I've just been through this while ordering a cruise control for my Vj 2004 transit with Auto (ASM?) gearbox.

I was told to connect to the wire that goes to speed but I had a lot of trouble pulling the dash apart and looking at the plug that connects the back of the instrument panel, it would have been very difficult finding the right wire anyway.

If you have a VJ transit with Auto gearbox, the simple way is to find the blue and white stripe wire at the sensor on the gearbox. Mine was a the back of the gearbox on the left hand side. Measure from there to ground.

It took me a while to find a multimeter with a frequency scale until I found that most recent model cheap meters as well as better quality Fluke meters have this. If you look at the AC scale on a Fluke meter and there's a yellow Hz next to it, you press the yellow button to change from Volts to frequency in Khz.

I ran a wire through the firewall and behind the engine to the speed sensor. If you drive at 50 kph, the frequency reading on the meter should be fairly stable.

Cheers,

Greg.

Hi Greg,

This thread is well over 15 years old now..... and the person you're responding to hasn't been on this forum since Jan 21 2014....I suspect you're talking to the long departed.
