from what I read on this forum it would be horrendously difficult. And if there are none of these around to buy, how could I get the parts?

You'd fit an auto box out of a car. But as Guy has said you couldn't get the Petrol Auto on that year over hear.

I wondered if a Scorpio with the same engine and auto box would fit, but worry if the ECU, loom, propshaft etc would work.
I dont have time to spare for long winded conversions.
I have to look at other makes. Vito, caravelle etc.

They were available in germany, but very rare! Most smiley petrol automatics are police minibuses here!

I was talking about the Vito, caravelle etc. that mickreeves said above!!

Guy has already said above that you could get the Petrol Auto Transit in mainland Europe!

 I can't see why you can't put a non electronic autobox onto the petrol "manual" Smiley :? :? :?
Hell :!: There's a brand spanking new petrol A4ld autobox in the Transit Club for sale

No electronics, should mean it's straight forward :!:

You'll obviously need the selector, prop shaft and rear crossmember from an auto Transit, whether a new gen/smiley (MK4/5)

Remember  The MK4 petrols were available in the UK with automatic

Ford Transit 120 TDI EPIC Automatic. 0-60 in a leisurely and smooth 12.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in 19.1 seconds. Now where's all these faster? manual Di s?
