Hello Custom owners, I need your advice please.
I have a 2005 Mk6 SWB semi-high which I converted into a camper seven and a bit years ago, and it needs to be replaced. Why? Rust, lots of it. I'm just in the middle of the annual welding marathon and I'm bored with it. I also have a 2006 Renault Trafic low roof, which isn't rusty at all. Galvanised, see. But too small for the family.
I've been trying to find a short, high Trafic (Vivaro, Primastar etc...) to convert, but they are like hen's teeth. However, there are quite a few short, high Customs about. They're a nice looking van and just the right size and shape.
So the question is this: Does the Custom rust? Some of them are over 10 years old now so it would be obvious if they're like the Mk6 and 7 which barely lasted that long without dissolving into a brown puddle. Anyone got a 2013 or 14 Custom, and has it had four sills and two wings yet? Or are they galvanised?
I know all about the wet belt and it doesn't scare me - I'd just change it, can't be harder to do than a chain. And I can't fit a LWB in my parking so that isn't an option.
