Should i get my wetbelt changed uk owner

Postby kevbond » Sun Mar 03, 2024 3:15 pm

I'm in the UK and I have a 2018 Custom that i bought used with 65,000 miles.

All is running well at the moment but i know the belts can fail as low as 60k.

Should i get it changed asap ?

If the answer is yes, can anyone recommend a decent garage in the North West as i'm based in Liverpool.

Thanks in advance.

I’d check if it’s on the Ford recall list or been done and I wouldn’t run the oil change to Ford recommended intervals for me on my 2.2 8000 is my maximum a oil change is a cheap why to keep the engine in good health.

No it's not on the recall list and i'm planning on oil changes every 8000 miles.

Just concerned that with some belts going at 60k, should i just pay out now and get it done ?

With the service intervals that Ford originally had and it being serviced to that me personally especially if you are keeping it long term I’d do it unless it has a good service record and had regular 8000 mile oil changes I think when Ford have had one in for recall to decide if it needs a belt, they inspected it though the rocker cover filler cap.

My take on this we own a 1.0 ecoboom 79000 mile 8 years old that destroyed itself after the wet belt stripped all its teeth and bent 3 valves. I took it apart rocker cover coil packs injector wiring etc to find the damaged belt. A lot of work just to see the belt its not a 5 minute job to inspect the belt especially with the 1.0 on the 2.0 ecoblue the belt can be seen though the oil filler but only one side so not perfect. On our vectra we used to have could remove 2 bolts and inspect the belt simples. Our next car and van will not be a Ford after the mess of wet belts and Ford attitude to there customer who have financially lost out though a poor design
