Pretty sure I still have DPF.
Fitted new Bosch MAF sensor and the problem seems to be cured. No discernible flat spots and sounds smoother although that could be my imagination.
Commands are now being sent to the EGR which seems to be behaving properly. The only slight anomaly remaining is that, similar to suggested previously, the EGR measured position never goes below 20%, so when the system is commanding 0% the error goes back to -100%. However this only seems to happen whith the throttle pedal right to the floor, or after a bit with it right up. I can't believe it's physically 20% open all the time as that would surely cause running problems. It may be something with the aftermarket EGR or Forscan - I'm certainly not going to re-fit the old one to find out!

Once again lesson is to avoid the very cheapest copy parts, especially when electronics involved

Have you ever refitted old egr to see if ok?

No - van is going perfectly and too much hassle - quite awkward. I'm sure the new egr is working correctly

Glad to hear that!

Can I ask where did you get the new EGR from? Mine started to stick sometimes, so or I will get it replaced or will blank it off totally.

I got it from TransitPartsUK - from eBay but they have their own website too. I find them very good (no affiliation), they seem to steer clear of the very cheap copy parts. It cost £70, you may be able to get one cheaper but I wouldn't advise it, they are quite fiddly to remove / re-fit, you don't want to do it twice!
