Constant dpf regens

Postby Kule B » Sun Aug 22, 2021 9:26 pm

Please help. I’ve heard people have had similar issue and the is seems fairly common. 2.2 euro 5 with 56k miles.
Regens about every 50 miles. No fault codes, no loss of power and having just come back from a highly regarded diagnostics garage I’m at a loss.

Having been mapped and unmapped elsewhere I had all the software returned to as built and up to date.

Static regen failed in the warm up phase.

Dpf was removed and professionally cleaned and a new vaporiser fitted.

Static regen completed successfully and all the data appeared to be as expected and looked to have cured it.

Using Forscan I monitored the load and soot, driven 20 miles and as before the work the load climbed and the soot jumped from 5% to 67% over the course of about 1 mile. Another 8 miles or so and it’s at 78% and will do a passive regen tomorrow. Doesn’t matter of the 50 miles is round town or at a constant steady speed. Anyone solved this issue??

This is almost certainly caused by a faulty dpf pressure difference switch. There is no way, the real sootload can jump from 5 to 67% in 1 Mile.

I say jump, it climbs rapidly. Jumping in blocks of 10% ish. On a normal drive once it reaches around 30% (from about 21% after a passive regen) soot having done about 18/20 miles since the last regen it will climb quickly up to around 67%. Where is the switch located?

The dpf pressure sensor was replaced is that the same thing? The voltage read 0.44 with the ignition.

If the switch is definitely OK, it may be worth checking the two pressure tubes that run up to it. A split or a scuff in one pipe will upset the differential pressure reading :)

No, had the dpf cleaned and a new vaporiser fitted and still had the same issue. The next option was checking the injectors which could have been the problem following the pcm update. But with the costs there and no guarantee it will resolve it I had it gutted and mapped out before it did more damage. Certainly no issues there and I’m assured the mot won’t be an issue either, it is a risk mind.

The MOT changed 3 years ago, found the text below on whatcar.....

"Testers are also required to check if diesel cars’ DPFs have been tampered with or removed. If there are visible signs of this, the tester must refuse to test the car unless the owner can provide a legitimate reason for it having been removed, such as for cleaning."

Have two invoices for dpf being removed and cleaned. The second included a new vaporiser being fitted

I was having this problem on my new 2.0L engine.
We'd taken the caravan up to the Yorkshire Dales and the message on the dash read same every time service required.
It was starting to get on my wick and on the way back got onto the M6 and it carried on then the engine tone changed. FORScan told me the new engine was having to re-learn all the profiles.
Got home and it had covered 800 miles so dropped the oil and changed the filter.
Next day thought i'd start heading to Pentagon Ford and it never happened again

I tought my problem was fixed with new glow plugs (apparently they glow during regen to get the heat up) but the problem is back.

It drives when regenerating like there is a bungeecord attached to the back.

My van does exactly the same . 2013 custom 155 sport. Has always been kept standard .
Problem reported to 3 garages , all tried fixing , had a new vaporiser, sensors in exhaust , injectors cleaned and checked, new engine breather cover. Glow plugs tested. Still does the same , been told to remove the dpf and remove the dpf/egr from the ecu. Shame tho as i had the van 8 years and been perfect.

Yes but only by gutting the dpf and mapping it out. The other option was new to injectors to see if that may stop ot
