Dying MK6 90ps

Had a slight problem yesterday,

My MK6 90ps got water down into the turbo overnight (turns out theres a nice hole allowing it to get into the air filter inlet), whent to start it yesterday, turned over slow but didnt lock up, looked out at the exhaust and there was water coming out still it started, smoked like f**k but soon cleared

No loss of power and no extra smoke

started fine all day

This morning, started first turn but smoked like f**k again, white unburnt diesel smoke, Now is it likely to be compression or could it be an injector has failed,

dont have any power loss and it starts first crank but just smokes for about 5 mins of driving, i would have thort if it was compression it wouldnt start well and now im thinking i may have a knackered injector

If it is compression i will just swap the engine for a good 2nd hand unit (prob a 125ps)

any ideas befor i gp and find one

also getting a bit of white smoke at tickover when cold and on over run when cold

Have you looked in your air filter? I have found that it fills up with water when left standing so I fitted a plastic cover over it. Could be the source of your problem. Let us know.

that was the problem yesturday, the turbo filled up with water

Fitted a non std one anyway

Im hopeing its just an injector but i think its more terminal, starting fine now its hot

No idea

There was a hole for something in the scuttle allowing water in and the poxy pipe from the scuttle drain leakes right onto the filter

been smoking at tickover for a while now, just getting a bit tired

Just an update, now noticed a missfire on coldstart, lots of smoke, clears when its revved for a bit

So could be an injector hopefully, will isolate it tomorrow, if it isnt then head will come off to check the pistons and rods

On the TIS it says i need an injector aligner, anyone care to tell me what this is

How's the water getting into the filter housing, if it's dripping onto the housing no water should get in if the top is fitted right surely ( )

hes got a boy racer filter fitted and the aligner is to lign up the injectors when tightening to enable the leak off to be fitted correctly

It has got a cone filter but it did this with the original, when i changed it the filter was soaked with rain water

As for the aligner basically i dont really need one

Sounds to me as though you damaged a valve, piston crown or rings, causing a loss of compression in one cylinder - this can happen if water gets in. This would explain the lack of combustion when cold, but clearing as the engine is revved or warms up.

I'd get a compression check done just to rule this out, as I don't see it can be an injector.

thats the plan if it isnt an injector, will be hiring a tester, if its down then head off for a look

WHS ^ but hopefully not,usual ending to water ingress.
Check piston heights if you do pull head,usually bends a rod & the slight difference in piston height causes a miss-fire.This probably won`t show on a compression test.

Start with basics though,once you`ve pulled it to bits if you don`t find owt,it`s too late to put it back together to try easy stuff

Lets hope it`s an injector ,check the glowplugs as well (if they come out in one piece).
