Key Issues

Postby Bat135 » Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:16 pm

Hi

I have an 08 MK7 t350 RWD LWB.

Yesterday I noticed my key fob wasn’t working.

It wouldn’t even open door manually… it just threw out horn beeps when I tried to open it and also when I tried the twice left procedure to try any manually open rear and side doors.

So basically the blue key fob is not working. Luckily I had my black key with me that opened the drivers door manually and the blue key, although not opening the doors either manually or electronically via buttons did start the van after getting in with the black hood key.

So it starts the van, the blue one, but doesn’t operate central locking or manually open drivers door? Very odd.

The other odd thing is the black key, along with the blue fob, both don’t open the rear and side doors when I try the turn anti clockwise twice quickly manual opening of side and read door trick? So this is also unique and odd.

Are there any things I have mentioned above that might narrow down what the problem is? Before I take it and get charged a small fortune for a new key? It’s the only blue fob I have.

It’s weird that I can’t use the blue fob to even manually open doors yet it starts the van and that niether that or the black key open the side or rear doors when I try the manual twice to the left thing?

These keys charge in ignition so doubt it’s the battery in the fob?

What can I do?

Any advice welcomed…

Check your 2 fuse boxes behind glove box for blown fuse, unfortunately can't remember the number maybe 57 but not sure

Ok

Great

I will try this am

The only other thing I can can think of… and only just thought after posting is I was carrying some soil and I can see it’s covered the bit where the bottom of the doors are where the rear doors are closed as was moving some rootballed plants with rear doors open along a driveway…

So I think the soil is blocking the connections of the rear door to the magnetic strip to complete the circuit?? Could this cause it? If so how do I clear it with doors closed?

If anybody knows the fuses to check that would also help??

Thanks so far. : ) It might help somebody else with same issues.

My keys won't open the rear and side doors manually, either. I think the locks can be configured this way in IDS or Forscan, so that naughty people with bad intent and bump keys cannot access your load space, only the cab. Your drivers door lock is probably worn so will only work with a newer, less worn, key.

As for the non working key fob, have you checked your front battery :?:

Don’t think it’s the door lock as they open the drivers door or the keys as both black and blue keys don’t do it. And before I could open the rear and side doors with the two turn method.

How can I check battery with no multimeter? Not sure if there is another way to check it.

Thanks for the suggestions tho.

Hopefully somebody will come up with a solution..,

Pain in the proverbial tho as have my tools onboard and can’t get in.

Check the batteries under drivers seat as it’s a RWD , that can cause lock8ng and fob issues

Lock sensors are in the actual locking mechanism not on rear floor, (apart from side door and that's not on the floor its out the way of your muck)
DID YOU CHECK THROUGH YOUR FUSES YET?????????

I did disconnect both batteries under seat and reconnected again.

And the key fob worked again. Buttons.

That was last night but this morning it’s gone again. Not working. No buttons on fob??

Front battery under seat is knackered , replace it
The front battery supplies Locking, radio , internal lights when engine is offf ,
When you turn the key to start position you’ll hear a click under the seat of a relay that connects back start battery
Have you had any radio issues ? Or other strange dash occurrences ?

Nope

No dash or radio problems at all… which makes me think it’s not auxiliary battery. Also I replaced this fairly recently so don’t think it’s that….

Would I need multimeter to test? What should it read?

Same thing again this morning… it was working all yesterday and this morning it’s stopped again? So two days on the trott…

Hopefully it will come on again later today?

It’s not the battery. As swapped auxiliary with main.

Still got the problem?

Same again today. Didn’t work am but did later on.

As I say it’s not the auxiliary battery…

It’s either something blocking central locking circuit as the manual double unlock thick only works occasionally and the key works when it works intermittently?

Very very odd.

Anybody got any other ideas???
