another smoking transit

Postby thrud » Sun May 04, 2008 1:37 pm

Hi all, my 'new' van, a T reg 190, banana, has a problem, white smoke and is down on power,
i've searched and read some similar post's,
and this is what i've changed,

head gasket set
decoked head + pistons
reground the valves
reconditioned injectors
adjusted rockers ( found two loose bolts, over pot's 3 + 4 )
blocked EGR + tied open butterfly
changed oil + filter
fuel filter + cleaner
air filter
timing belt + new tensioner

and she still smoke's, any idea's guy's???

 Sounds like air is getting into the fuel system
Also, what injector is the one carrying the fuel return :?: (No.1 or no.4 :?: )

From the list above of things you've already done I said new pump required. White smoke is unburnt diesel.

i moved the fuel return from no.4 to no.1,
how tight should the fuel filter be? it located ok and with the collar tight i can still rotate the filter :?
also the 'banana's' were lined with oily slime, from butterfly to valves, i clean them as best i could but coulden't get it all out
please don't say that MrMPuk

Inlets gunking up is the EGR

You shouldnt be able to turn the filter, when you fit one you turn it until it located and goes up further then fit the collar

I have to be honest I would say you've wasted your money on most of what you've already done.

also white smoke can be caused by low compression i.e rings :(

Get it compression tested and report back
