Replacement rear axle

Postby Parcel » Sun Mar 17, 2024 6:42 pm

Does anyone know what other axles might fit a mk3 SWB single wheel?
Need a replacement really cheap.
Do the twin wheels ones fit?
Do any of the later one have the same leaf spring centres?
TIA

the mk4/5 ones fit the same leafspring mounts but i think the shocks are different some how??? can't remember exactly - they are about 4" wider tho so the arches might need a bit of work as mk3 is narrower
mk1/2 axles are practically the same - i think about 1/2" narrower

Next door neighbour fitted a mk 4 into a mk3 and had to move the shocker mounting on the axle from the front to back and it was also a wider axle

Or there is an easy way to get the shock mount in the right place if you fit a Mk4 or 5 axle to a Mk3
Other than the shock mounts, they are a straight swap.

Thanks for the advice all.
That gives some more options.
Unfortunately no cheap MK3 or MK5 axles on eBay within striking distance at the moment.
Love the bracket on a bracket shock mount!
