1996 2.5 TD engine oil dipstick stuck

Postby billbo45 » Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:50 pm

Hello......
I have a 1996 MK5 2.5TD Transit motorhome.
The oil level dip stick is stuck!

The outer tube can be moved left and right but the stick is proper stuck.

Will I need to remove tube and stick together and separate on the bench? and if so, how do I remove the tube.

Any advice will be so very welcomed!

It’s normally the opposite that happens that the dipstick tube is lose and needs something to keep it in place
I’m sure if you hold the dipstick tube tight with say vice grips or similar and you twist and pull at the same time it should come out ok but it will more likely pull the complete thing out hence trying to hold it with vice grips :!:
It surly can’t be that long from you dipped the oil or has the van been unused for years?

Has the sump been off lately?
The last stuck dipstick I heard of was on an engine minormatt bought that had the dipstick trapped in the sump to block joint!

it's a motorhome and I haven't had it serviced in the 5 years I've owned it, just check oil occasionally. It is about to go into the garage for a complete service prior to me refurbishing the interior for the summer. It on has 59k on the clock and runs very well.
I'm just concerned that the garage will have a problem with sorting the dipstick out.

I'm close to Wisbech.

I didn't use my van for 2 month recently and the dipstick was stuck. A good yank got it free but I was surprised it hasn't happened before.
