water running into the cab when it rains??

Postby billbo45 » Sat Jul 08, 2023 4:04 pm

Hi
My transit van based motorhome has suddenly developed a large leak when it rains.
The water runs into the passenger footwell.
I can't for the life of me find where it's coming from.

HELP!!!

Hiya,

I have the exact same issue. Can’t work it out. I’ve now put some 12mm battens under the carpet/rubber so water can’t soak into rubber and can dry out quicker

Might be worth checking behind the wing mirror trims. There are some holes and plastic rivet type things that let the rain in on mine

Check windscreen and door rubbers and also the wiper mount panel

there are plenty of detailed solutions to this problem both on this forum and on youtube if you look .'
Here is one I made many years ago .

There are 3x main areas that water enters the step area....
the door seal, the windscreen seal and the scuttle channel below the plastic wiper trim.

here is another of my videos showing the water entry point on the windscreen seal opposite the roof gutter.

Also remove the external plastic scuttle trim and check the water channel and around the wiper arm pivots for water ingress there. Water leaks at the scuttle leak through to the footwells.
Also make sure that you are not losing water from your coolant system hoses and heater . If you add some harmless food dye to your water it will show up any leaks from the coolant system into the cab area and elsewhere .

if you lift the rubber seal at the top of the windscreen opposite the roof gutter with a screwdrive check to see if it is wet underneath or there is any damp dust and mud accumilated under the seal. Watch my second video it will show you how rainwater gets under the rubber seal travels down to the bottom of the A post windscreen frame and then into the cab area onto the outer edge of footwells in front of the pedals.

You need to start inspecting your van thoroughly and figure out where rain water could be entering . Water may be travelling some distance from a seemingly unrelated area

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words so here is a quick video I did today which might be helpful for anyone searching for the source od cab leaks to the footwells and step areas. https://youtu.be/LQ2rOkK1EsY?si=IDljK2SEPRpsFsDg

Hello, so glad I've found this site , at wits end like most of you guys, the leak .. I've sealed round doors , windscreen , pillars etc, clagged sealant inside roof/cab, when it rains I see it dripping in at the inside handle above windows so I know it's the roof area where it leaks now...,
Been up and can't see anywhere on roof or along the lip areas, 4 year I've had van, I adore it it's my camper, and every year I have to pull the floor up to keep it dry nd rot free,
So again for 4th year running I'm looking for places to clag sealant..
Any ideas??...

did you watch the youtube videos I have made about these leaks and see how you can stop them. I provided a link in the post above.
Water can gain access at points far removed from where you see the water. You'll have to apply some masking tape around the gutters and roof area until you stop the leak then you'll know where it is getting in
