Swapping 1994 chassis cab for a later one?

Postby pluto12 » Sat Jan 12, 2008 12:14 pm

I have a 1994 camper (luton style) on a 2.5DI series 100L chassis cab and I am considering the possibility of upgrading the chassis cab at a later date to a newer model. How long did the 1994 100L chassis last before changing the shape (if they have), so what model chassis cab would be the latest I could use?

The theory being the chassis cabs are completely self contained, and so are the luton camper bodies, they're just bolted on at the end of the day. Obviously there will be a few minor issues regards sealing cab etc.

What does the panel think?

TIA

What's wrong with the one you have?

Nothing really just not smiley face, power steering, it's old etc....
Spoilt brat stuff :-)

I have only just got it so was not thinking of it for a while, and then only if some major expense came up say a £2k repair! I thought it might be an idea to spend the dough on an upgrade.

Be easier to fit power steering and the smiley face to the one you've got. You could even fit the dashboard. Job done.

Earlier engines were better as they had less restrictions on them for emissions, on yours the brakes and axles will be the same. Yes things like ABS were available but are very rare anyway. Stick with what you have!

It's only done 45k as it is with no faults apart from the no frills bit, oh and it's LHD as well.

So the 94 DI was a good un worth sticking with then?

Dont suppose anyone has an owners manual in English they would like to sell, the one that came with it is German!

Will Ford in Germany have the service history on their computers, as the UK ones dont?

I'd like to know what, if any servciing was done. At the moment I have nothing so I dont even know if cambelts etc were done. I'll get them replaced anyway as soon as I collect it Monday just to be safe.
