TDCi into mk1 transit - engine conversion plans????

Postby Luke » Thu Nov 13, 2008 12:15 am

i'm having wicked thoughts again

my new mk1 could do with a more powerfull engine - ive gone through a few possibilites latest one is a TDCi - from a mondeo

theres a few things i'm unsure of :) can anyone conferm will the TDCi 2.0 bolt up to a mk7 transit 2.4 RWD gearbox :?:

the reason i want a mk7 box is it's remote gearstick - i could have it on the dash of the mk1, as with a floor mounted stick i'd have to set the engine so far back because of the flat front that the stick would be in the way of the seats :(

ecu wiring - is there anything thats gonna stop it working :?:

anyone any comments on anything please add them :D

would it not be better to have a 2.4 engine then the mountings would be ready and intake exhaust water pipes would allready be set up for rwd or do you want to utilise the mondeo engine.
what about the 2.4 135 tdci and 6speed.

the reason i thought of a mondeo for the donor is you can get them cheap - plenty of accident damaged ones about :D also the 115ps would be more than enough for my van - its only a camper :D

the engine mounts i'd be ok with making them from scratch cos ive got the tools to do that and on the early mk1's the engine mounts are on the front crossmember so that would need some work :D

ive yet to look at an enige in a mondeo close up - only pics so im not sure how many of the pipes can be altered easly or not :D

Wahoo... Put so much power in an MK1... What a great idea.I'd like it for sure,if i knew how to stop the wild horses with the 1977 breack system :D
For mine I think I 'll put,if I find it a 2l5 DI from MK3/4 and an overdrive 4 gearbox

I still seen this mounted on a MK1 ouble rear wheels ( a long one FT 175,I mean )
It was sold last month so I could drive it.
Not verry fast but enough for me and less noises
It works for our technical controls( in france you are not allowed to mdify your car so you must do it soberly)
I did'nt bought it because rust had won on the frame and the body was full of badly repaired places

I remembered at last :P

I had a mk7 140ps engine and a mk6 FWD box and the slid together lovely until the diff housing hit the ladder frame (about 10mm gap!!), but majority of the bell housing bolts lined up, including the dowels :D

So a 2.0 duratorq bell housing pattern is the same as a mk7 2.4 duratorq pattern (and before you ask, no I didnt try the 6 speed on the 2.0 engine, when you lift one you'll understand why I wasn't gonna try and fit it in a FWD hole to see if it fits :) )

Now GET ON WITH IT

how do you find out how much loom to keep? Can you just sit there with engine running and pull out fuses till it stops then cut all other wires with no fuses off fuse box?or is it not that simple never messed with all this stuff ,when I had probs with lucas epic I called man with computer.Had similar thoughts about cheaply upgrading mk3 swb
W reg Turbo 100
V reg 100 swb
C reg mk2 recovery
R reg 190
